How to get to Heraklion Airport from your hotel?

The airport of Heraklion is located about 5 km east of the city centre of Heraklion. Due to the short distance, it is very easy to get there either by public buses, taxi or by car. If you rent a car, take the Ikarou Street from the city center or ride via E75 motorway in direction to Aghios Nikolaos. There are more than 20 car rental companies at Heraklion airport.

How to get to Heraklion Airport by bus?

Getting to/from airport by bus is the cheapest option. Buses run every few minutes on a daily base, starting from 06:00 in the morning until midnight. All the bus stops at the airport are outside the terminal to the right and terminate at the main A’ bus station in Heraklion, located near the port of the city. The bus ticket costs €2.00 one-way and the bus ride lasts about 20 minutes depending on the traffic conditions. Bus tickets are bought on the bus. If you are travelling to Heraklion from other Cretan cities, you have first go to the central bus station and then hop on the airport bus.

Keep in mind that buses routes are less frequent on Sundays. Also, there are no buses running at night.

How to get to Heraklion Airport on a taxi?

The taxi waiting area is located right outside the passenger terminal at Heraklion airport. Passengers that want to catch a taxi have to wait on the queue until the first free taxi is available. The taxi ride to Heraklion city center costs €20.00. There are extra charges if you have more than one suitcase or get a taxi after midnight.

An alternative option of getting to the airport of Chania from Chania Old town is taking a taxi. Taxis are available 24/7 and are waiting for passengers outside the airport terminal.
